The Dragonfly is a 6-panel watercolor children’s storybook idea. I had started with initial concept sketches of each story beat, I then refined the drawings, added watercolor and used ink to do the line art.
The Dragonfly: Panels and Story

In a small village there lived a little lonely girl called Anne. She had nobody to play with. Her days were filled with loneliness and she longed for a friend. The little girl always went to sit by the fountain, she loved to hear the happy sounds of the water as it spilled into the fountain pond. One day as she sat tracing her reflection in the water, leaving little ripples a tiny movement caught her eye.

“Oh no! It’s a little dragonfly… He’s drowning” The little girl was so scared she was frozen to her spot.

The small creature struggled helplessly, its fragile wings bearing the watery weight and slowly sinking.

Anne didn’t know how but she got the courage to cup the dragonfly in her hands. It lay so still and lifeless that for a moment she thought she was too late to save him.

Magically, the dragonfly grew in size as magnificent colors and glorious rays of light streamed from him. The joyful colors enchanted the little girl as she stood in amazement.

Then the Dragonfly gently spoke and said “Thank you my friend, you saved my life! I will be grateful to you forever.” And with that, he motioned for her to get on to his back and together they flew skyward. A wonderful adventure had just begun, and finally the little girl knew that she wasn’t alone. She saw the world in a whole new way now as happily they soared, just Anne and her dragonfly friend.
