Objective

Ghostlands is an anthology collection of five strange realms, I had designed each with the idea that the viewer would be looking into a unique scene that is surreal and mysterious. I wanted to create an atmosphere that was ominous and haunting, lingering in the moment just enough to create wonder about the story.

Rone

Rone is a full monochromatic scene in red and black, showing a woman floating on the top of a mountain, a large wolf-like creature looms overhead through the stormy sky. In this piece I wanted to work with creating storm clouds from textures and fractal noise in Adobe After Effects, I wanted the clouds to illuminate with each lightning strike.

Glass Room

The subject of the scene is a shadowy figure seated in the middle of a glass room, the structure is silhouetted against the burning desert landscape. The goal of this piece was to create a haunting atmosphere with the shadowy figure turning to look at the viewer. I had constructed the room and chair in Adobe After Effects and made the figure semi transparent at the bottom of the veil to create a ghostly effect.

Medusa

This composition showcases a figure with rootlike tentacles and orbs that float around her. I wanted to play around with glowing particles and deep glow effect with the energy orb, as well as working with animating and arranging the roots to appear as if they were slithering around her face, I used a heavy grain and fractal effect on the background and a palette of greens, purples and reds.

Red Lake

A surreal scene of a rock-scape in a still blood red lake, a glowing cube rotates just above the water’s surface, ripples form underneath. A passing shadow of a creature flying overhead is cast over the rocks and red lake. The challenge of this scene was to create the water’s surface, and the reflections of the landscape and atmosphere. I wanted to capture the way the reflections would look realistically over the red waters.

The Walkers

this is a scene of cube like towers walking towards a misty infinity, disappearing as they follow each other one by one in line. For this scene I had the idea of wanting to show space and perspective but the challenge was in designing the space and animating the legs as they walked into the distance. I used a reference and rotoscoped footage to aid in creating the motion of the towers walking, I composited the scene together in Adobe After Effects to achieve this result.
